London and Bubblin' in Dublin

Hello friends from other places.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while.  Many things have been happening, including the arrival of Kay.  I am excited about that for several reasons, one being that I don't have to role solo anymore and am able to share all these amazing experiences with someone not via the internet.

I will be having several posts coming in the next few days to get you all caught up on everything, but today we will cover London and Dublin.  I was staying with a friend of Kay's in London and that city is a place of diversity.  Not only are there people from all walks of life but the city itself is quit a menagerie.  It is divided into different parts of towns and each part couldn't be more different then the next.  We explored Westminster, which is where Big Ben and Parliament are along with the river Thames. Kay and I saw the Tower of London also and it was really funny.  I know, who thinks a place strife with a history of torture and violence could be funny, but it was mostly our guide putting a great spin and sense of humor on his description of things.

I, on my own, also went and explored several parts of the city seeing different museums, nice homes and a couple of different highlights.

Between my initial arrival in London and when Kay got there I spent the weekend in Dublin, Ireland.  I went to see Notre Dame play Navy in the season opener.  IT WAS AWESOME!  Not only I was seeing Notre Dame play in person for the first time, a long time wish of mine for anyone who knows me, but I am in Ireland enjoying the sweetest Guinness you can find anywhere on the planet.  They brew it just a little different there since it is the original formula and factory creating a sweet and smooth dark porter with foam the consistency of meringue.  Delish!  The game was fantastic, Irish won 50-10, and Dublin as a city, was great!  Very walkable with lots of things to see right there in town.  I had a great time and am continuing that feeling in Interlaken, Switzerland right now.  Tomorrow morning, early, Kay and I are going to be on the Top of Europe.  I will explain more afterwards and there should be some spectacular pictures to accompany it.  In the mean time enjoy these and hope all is with everyone.  I will be home around the end of the month and am excited to see and get caught up on everything that has been happening with all of you.  Happy first week of NFL and the League.

Ciao

The Museum of Natural History in New Kensington.

This is the on the wall just outside of the Fashion Museum.  Not sure how long that museum has been there but this wall survived WW2.

Some of the holes left from the heavy bombings during WW2.  Makes you stop and just say Wow, that's scary.

The Roman Arc, in London. I think it is for concerts and musical shows.  Cool building though.

This is in Dublin the morning I arrived.  After they heard I was in town they decided to stock up.  Just kidding, these are empties.

My breakfast the first morning in Ireland.  Steaky bacon and some very nice, fluffy pancakes.

How can you improve on perfection?!?!?!

The City Hall building of sorts in Dublin.

Dublin Castle.

Christ Church in Dublin.  They have some really old churches.

The original storage house of Guinness.  They just call it Arthurs's, after the founder.  They celebrate his, Arthur, birthday at the end of this month.  The motto is "Paint the town black".  RAD!

Something that made me think of Portland.

The morning of the game, 9:30.

One hour later.  The funniest thing is they aren't even supposed to serve until 10:30 and a uniformed officer sat just outside the door the whole time.  Gotta love Ireland.

Aviva stadium from my seat.  Cost my first born but well worth it.

GO, IRISH!

Look kids Big Ben...

.. Parliament.

The crazy ferris wheel you always see.  The thing goes REALLY slow!

This is called the Monument.  It is to commemorate the great fire in London that destroyed much of the city in the 1800's.  It is the exact height as the distance between it and where the fire started.

Tower Bridge right next to the Tower of London.

The cool egg shaped building in downtown London.

The Tower was more then just a tower and was actually a place where the king and queen lived.  Henry the 8th lived here and also executed a couple of his wives and royal advisor for telling him he should not combine the church and state into himself.

This came to be know as the traitors entry.  They would sneak people in on boat who were charged with treason.  Anne Boleyn was brought through here.

This is the main building where many of the kings and queens of the past lived inside the Towers' walls.

Royal Guard.  So focused.  We also learned those tall hats are just to mess with your head.

Cool bike/flower statues in the Royal Garden that is open to everyone. It is just down the River Thames.
